Managing Virtual Teams
Simon Wallace | 1st April 2014
Managing virtual teams is commonplace in the industrial sector as organisations expand into frontier markets and export as part of aggressive strategies for growth. The challenge of a long distance relationship is not a new phenomenon, yet so many virtual business relationships fail because of a poorly managed virtual process despite the option today of video and voice over internet.
I’ve been managing virtual teams for more than 20 years and have learned many lessons along the way. Here are my 5 steps for virtual team success:
- Meet, greet and bond
- Agree a destination, your rules and a plan
- Remove obstacles then act straight away
- Review your progress, don’t miss this date, it’s good to talk!
- Celebrate each ‘win’ and learn from those you don’t
The Whole Thing practices this now…and its working!
